Barcode Process

Surya has developed a barcode technology in-house to help with accuracy and speed of all the processes, from receiving to shipping. The logic behind our barcode has been based on the uniqueness of our business and is to help us track each individual piece in our different warehouses. Please read below carefully to fully understand the process of generating these barcodes and the requirements on printing and labeling them on the product. Please email us at barcode@surya.com, if you have any questions regarding this process.

Generating Barcode (using website)

Below is a website link where you can simply upload a file in .csv format and it will generate the labels for you. The label type and examples are listed to help you better understand the process. Preceding this is an explanation on how the code is generated. This helps you understand the process, in case you would like to generate these yourselves instead of using the website.

The barcode labels can be generated by going to our website and uploading a CSV file with the list of skus for which barcodes are required.  The CSV file must have the SKU name in the first column, the second column has the number of labels to be printed, and the third column should contain the Purchase Order Number. Download an example csv file here.

For instance,
Text Box: Item No (SKU)Text Box: QuantityText Box: Purchase Order

FM106-6SQ will have 4 different labels followed by 2 different COS8868-58 labels, and so on and so forth.

Once you have the CSV ready, go to http://www.surya.com/barcode; here, you have a few options. The first is to pick a label to print onto; currently we only have two choices, the main option and the most widely used “Avery 5163” or “A4” which prints 12 labels on an A4-sized sheet. Other labels formats may be added as demand dictates.

The other option is for those who need to print the same label twice in each row. By enabling this option, it allows for printing both end labels on the same row versus printing multiple sheets and applying from the same position.  See diagram below:

When options are set, (Avery 5163 is set by default) hit Submit to upload the CSV file and once it has been uploaded, the website will auto-redirect to the web page that shows the newly generated labels.

For this to print properly onto Avery 5163 labels, go to “Print Preview” and change the content to “Only the selected frame”

then go into page setup options which must be set as below (with header and footer empty for all blocks and for the margins have .5 inch on top and .2 inch margin on rest)

Generating Barcode (actual process)

You can use this process, in case you do not want to use the website as illustrated above

The sequence for the barcode should be generated as follows:

Purchase Order associated with the item will be the first set of characters followed by a pipe symbol (|), if not available then nothing is prefixed.

The Item Number (or SKU) is the next set of characters to be placed followed by an underscore (_), finally a 5 character alphanumeric sequence is randomly generated and appended to the end.  – This is done by calling a random character out of the list "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789" and concatenating them together.

For instance, the label when printed will appear as shown on next page:

Which when scanned will reveal “PO5323|OAS1012-58_LQR2U”

PO5323|OAS1012-58_LQR2U

            {PO5323} – Purchase Order

{OAS1012-58} – SKU

{LQR2U} – Randomly generated sequence

Barcode labeling process

The barcodes are mirror printed onto sticker labels (as shown above) so that the barcode is visible on both sides and placed on the zip tie on either end of the rug as shown below:

Ensure you print 3 copies of the labels, one for each end of the rug and one for the rug care label.

(Currently there is no means of automatically generating a different label for the care and cleaning label, so for now it will be placed directly on or below the care label as illustrated in the following screenshots.)

or

Depending on your current process, you can use either process, whichever fits best.
Effective Date

Starting from May 15th 2012, all shipments sent to us will require these barcode labels on every product. A failure to do so will lead to chargeback for the labor and label costs spent on doing the same on our end at the time of receipt of container. Any exception will require a prior approval from us. All un-scan able labels that require relabeling will incur chargeback too. You may send a PDF of sample labels prior to shipment for us to test and approve.
